Baggage Policy

As of 2026, Southwest has updated its baggage fee structure. Fees depend on your fare type.

• Personal Item: Free for all passengers. Must fit under the seat in front of you (maximum size: 18.5 x 8.5 x 13.5 inches). Think purses, laptop bags, or small backpacks.
• Carry-on Bag: One free carry-on allowed for everyone (maximum size: 24 x 16 x 10 inches). This goes in the overhead bin.
• Checked Baggage Fees (New for 2026):

Southwest introduced checked bag fees for certain fare types in 2026:

Weight Limit: Each checked bag must weigh 50 lbs (23 kg) or less. Overweight bags incur additional fees.

Military Exception: Active-duty military personnel traveling on orders remain exempt from all baggage fees when presenting valid military ID.
